Building & Grounds Committee

The Building Committee meets several times a year to oversee the maintenance of our buildings and grounds. This committee also reports to the Parish Finance Council and the Parish Pastoral Council to provide insight and guidance for planning and budgeting purposes.

Minutes of April 19, 2007, Meeting

Members Present: Jake Yeager

Parish Custodian: Donald Placzkowski

Business Administrator: Penny Demerath

Meeting convened at 6:50pm.

Jake Yeager was welcomed as a new member of the committee and given copies of the minutes since November.   Penny and Don reviewed the process of facility inspection in November leading to the budget process.

Don stated that the damage done to the ladies restroom in the church basement, due to the frozen pipe and subsequent flood, has been repaired.

The repair of the limestone facing was reviewed.   Penny stated that John Retzlaff, the mason who was contacted last fall about the repair, had changed his mind on what should be done, after thinking about it over the winter.   John does not feel comfortable trying to patch and repair the deteriorated limestone because he feels it would be too difficult to match the patching to the original stone.   John suggests using a power washer to remove loose debris, then using a solution of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water to neutralize the salt put on over the winters, then rinsing with a garden hose, and applying a sealer that can be obtained from Zoll Stone or a similar vendor.

The peeling paint and faded doors on the rectory west entrances was discussed with Jake.   Jake is very familiar with the rectory since he worked on it when it was built by his father.   Jake and Don were going to look at the doors after the meeting and we can discuss it again at our May meeting, however, Jake felt that cladding the wood with aluminum would probably be the best solution, along with painting the door.

Don mentioned that the librarians in school have noticed a water stain on the library ceiling on the west side, which is where the school and church roofs meet.   Penny will call Frank from Tremco, the vendor who replaced the school roof, to have them determine the problem and fix it under warranty.

The meeting adjourned at 7:15pm, with Don and Jake going to tour the school.   The next meeting is scheduled for May 17, 6:45pm., Center Main Level.

Respectfully submitted,

Penny Demerath
