Building & Grounds CommitteeThe Building Committee meets several times a year to oversee the maintenance of our buildings and grounds. This committee also reports to the Parish Finance Council and the Parish Pastoral Council to provide insight and guidance for planning and budgeting purposes. SACRED HEART CHURCH BUILDING & GROUNDS COMMITTEE Minutes of February 15, 2007, Meeting Members Present: Kyle Alexander, Jim Daniel, Herb Tauchen, Randy Lorge Parish Custodian: Donald Placzkowski Business Administrator: Penny Demerath Meeting convened at 6:50pm. Committee reviewed the minutes of the January 18, 2007 meeting and the list of maintenance items to be considered for the next fiscal year budget. Motion by Herb Tauchen seconded by Jim Daniel to recommend the following items for inclusion in the fiscal year 2007/2008 budget. Motion carried. Church - Paint is cracking and peeling in the southwest and northwest stairways to the church basement. Recommend re-painting, estimate cost at $ 3,300.00. Explore options to provide soft water for the baptismal font system as hard water is causing excessive wear to regulator valve and heating element, we are trying a recommendation to balance acidity and alkalinity of the water to achieve the desired balance. Should install an emergency light in the basement kitchen. Estimate cost at $250.00. Need to start a chemical treatment program for the church/school boiler water supply to potentially increase its life span and the life span of the actuator valves and circulatory pumps, as well. Estimate cost at $250.00. Convert all the lights in the main body of the church to metal halide from the old incandescent lights, to give brighter light and safer as well. Estimate cost at $2,000.00. Sacred Heart School- The freeze stats and dampner motors in one main floor school classrooms need to be replaced. Estimate cost at $ 750.00. New ballasts and bulbs should be installed in the school classrooms to save energy and provide safer lighting. Estimate a net cost, after rebate, of $6,500.00. The floor carpeting will be replaced in one school classroom, based on room most in need. Estimate cost at $1,700.00. The tile wall tile surfaces in the kindergarten and bathrooms are showing wear and peeling paint, will need to re-paint and seal. Estimate cost of $500.00. Need to paint the two basketball standards in the school playground. Estimate cost at $ 100.00 for supplies, we can do the work ourselves. Parish Rectory- South facing doors and trim need to be painted or replaced. Estimate cost at $ 700.00 to re-paint doors, replace trim, and new weatherstrip. Will also get estimate for cost of new doors to compare costs. Bathroom counter top could be replaced, this will be donated by a parish member, estimate cost to replace bowl and faucets at $ 250.00. Deck boards need to be re-sealed and may need to replace a few boards, estimate will cost $ 250.00. Landscaping- Need to remove shrubs on the north side of the church located right next to electrical station. Plan to do this with volunteers. The following items should be considered in the next two to three years maintenance plans: Parish Center- Lawn mower is 13 years old and beginning to wear out, need to consider replacement. Need to obtain an evaluation of condition of the water expansion tank, to determine if it needs to be replaced and when. Garage door may need to be replaced. Church- Landscaping of some type is needed to replace grass that does not grow well next to south side of church walls, due to hot dry conditions. Sacred Heart School- Replace freeze stats and dampner motors in one or two more main floor classrooms. Continue to replace carpeting in one school classroom each year. Committee recommends we consider designation of 2 or 3 more parking spaces along the west side of The Gathering Space as handicap parking spaces.
