Building & Grounds Committee
The Building Committee meets several times a year
to oversee the maintenance of our buildings and grounds. This committee also
reports to the Parish Finance Council and the Parish Pastoral Council to provide
insight and guidance for planning and budgeting purposes.

SACRED HEART CHURCH BUILDING & GROUNDS COMMITTEE
Minutes of January 19, 2006, Meeting, Parish Center
Members Present: Herb Tauchen, Jim Daniel, Kyle Alexander, Randy Lorge

Meeting convened at 6:47pm.
Committee member Tim Roe has indicated he can no longer serve on this committee as he has changed work schedule to nights so not able to attend meetings. We thank him for his service. We have contacted parish member Jim Yeager about joining our committee.
The committee reviewed and prioritized the maintenance items identified during our December walk-through of parish buildings.
The following items are recommended for consideration for inclusion in the fiscal year 2006/2007 budget, by this committee:
Sacred Heart School-
- The freeze stats and dampner motors in the heating system in each of the main floor school classrooms need to be replaced.
- New ballasts should be installed in the lights of 6 classrooms, would save energy costs as well as provide a safer lighting system. We can install them ourselves.
- The floor carpeting will need to be replaced in one school classroom, room to be selected in the spring based on wear.
Church-
- Paint is peeling from an area on the south wall of the church sanctuary and also cracks are developing in the paint in this same area.
- The regulator pressure (RP) valve in the basement, which controls water flow to the baptismal font, will need to be replaced due to internal wear from hard water.
- Also need to consider exploring options to provide soft water for the baptismal font either by utilizing our current water softener in the basement or installing a new, second water softener.
- The circulating pump for the gym air circulation sys
- tem is slowly wearing out and will need to be replaced. Parish Center-
- The basement floor tile and baseboard need to be replaced with new materials.
- The carpeting in the north entrance and the steps going to the main floor needs replacement. Recommend rubber tread material for the step risers.
- The carpeting in the upper level southeast meeting room needs to be replaced.
Parish Rectory-
- The south door to the associate pastor living area does not seal correctly and needs to be adjusted.
The following items are recommended for inclusion in the fiscal year 2007/2008 budget, by this committee:
Sacred Heart School-
- The wall tile surfaces in the school hallways and bathrooms are showing wear and peeling of paint, will need to be re-surfaced or re-painted.
- New ballasts should be installed in the lights of 6 classrooms, would save energy costs as well as provide a safer lighting system. We can install them ourselves.
Church-
- Paint is cracking and peeling in the southwest and northwest stairways to the church basement as well as the walls of the southwest bathroom in the church basement. Need to determine best method to repair these areas. Also have paint peeling along the south wall in the southwest corner of the church basement.
- The risers and treads for the 5 middle steps in the stairway to the church basement at the northeast church entrance need to be replaced.
Parish Rectory-
- Replace the bathroom vanity countertop.
The following items are recommended for inclusion in the fiscal year 2008/2009 budget, by this committee.
Sacred Heart School-
- Two large windows next to the door at the north entrance have condensation developing in-between the glass panes and should be replaced. Also the 3 windows around the door at the southeast entrance to the school have a similar problem and should be replaced.
- The panels on the outside walls on either side of each set of classroom windows need to be caulked and painted. This work can be done by parish staff and/or parish volunteers.
- The surface of the stage floor in the gym needs to be re-done or resurfaced.
Parish Rectory-
- The kitchen and bathroom/laundry room floor covering will need to be replaced.
We are continuing to search for a local Boy Scout to lead our upcoming spring landscaping project around the Parish Center walls, as an Eagle Scout community service project.
Sacred Heart School has received a donation for funding the replacement of the school gym floor and repair or replacement of the gym bleachers. Bids are being secured for possible options for this work. It is anticipated this project may take place this summer.
