Building & Grounds Committee

The Building Committee meets several times a year to oversee the maintenance of our buildings and grounds. This committee also reports to the Parish Finance Council and the Parish Pastoral Council to provide insight and guidance for planning and budgeting purposes.

SACRED HEART CHURCH BUILDING & GROUNDS COMMITTEE

Minutes of March 15, 2007, Meeting

Members Present: Jim Daniel, Herb Tauchen

Parish Custodian: Donald Placzkowski

Business Administrator: Penny Demerath

Meeting convened at 6:45pm.

Committee reviewed the minutes of the February 15, 2007 meeting and the list of maintenance items to be considered for the next fiscal year budget.   No changes were made.

Don mentioned that the circulating pump for the hot water faucets in the school bathrooms had malfunctioned.   Don stated that Gordon Zachow Plumbing believed he had a part in stock and had replaced it.   Don stated that since the pump is very old that Zachow stated that he had the part on hand for a long time and would give us a good price on it.

The rectory doors were discussed.   Penny stated that she had contacted Dennis at Retail Lumber and obtained an estimate of $200 per door for a new, clad frame.   Retail Lumber does not install the frames and Penny stated that she had a call in to the installer for an estimate, but hadn’t heard back yet.

Don stated that there is an air lock in the north air handling system that he is working on clearing.   The system is probably 30-35 years old.

The February 9 th flood in the church basement was discussed.   Don will put up the dry wall and vent to prevent the pipe from freezing again.   Dick Umland will mud, sand, and paint the area for an estimated $350.   This cost should be covered by the insurance claim, which is pending.

Penny stated that a parishioner has mentioned to her that the hot water faucet in the boys’ bathroom near the gym is either leaking or is too hard to turn off.   Don stated that the faucet was sticking and has been replaced and that the other faucet seems to be functioning properly.

The painting of the yellow stripes on outside steps was discussed.   Don stated that he plans to do this in the spring and can probably use the same yellow paint to repaint the basketball standards in the playground area.

Penny mentioned that the Green Bay Diocese sent out information on precautions to take during the winter along with a log sheet to keep as a defense against any injury claims.   Penny will review this Don, however, since the information just arrived and it is already mid-March, this will be something that will be instituted on a more permanent basis in the fall.

Don mentioned that the sensor for the security light, which is mounted on the south side of the school, needed to be repaired and that Radtke had already completed this project on March 14.

Jim asked about the progress of putting up more handicap parking signs.   Penny apologized for not having completed that project yet and indicated she would make it a priority.

The meeting adjourned at 7:27pm.   The next meeting is scheduled for April 19, 6:45pm. Center Main Level.

Respectfully submitted,

Penny Demerath, Parish Business Administrator
