Building & Grounds Committee

The Building Committee meets several times a year to oversee the maintenance of our buildings and grounds. This committee also reports to the Parish Finance Council and the Parish Pastoral Council to provide insight and guidance for planning and budgeting purposes.

SACRED HEART CHURCH BUILDING & GROUNDS COMMITTEE

Minutes of May 17, 2007, Meeting

Members Present: Jake Yeager, Randy Lorge, Herb Tauchen

Parish Custodian: Donald Placzkowski

Business Administrator: Penny Demerath

Meeting convened at 6:50pm.

Don mentioned that the school is hosting a dance for the middle school children tomorrow night, Friday, May 18 and that all of the schools in the Big Six have been invited. Terry will be working his usual schedule and the police have been asked to patrol the grounds on a regular basis to insure the safety of the children and that no one is loitering.

Don mentioned that the grant through SMU for replacement of the school lighting has been approved. Penny stated that funds will be received from the grant when paid invoices are submitted. There is an initial outlay of about $6000 with the grant eventually covering about $2500 of the cost. However, additional savings occur through lower energy bills. It is believed that there is a rapid payback on this expenditure.

Don plans to contact Chad Burr, a parishioner with maintenance experience to ask if he will assist in the changing of the ballasts and bulbs. This work will be done by parish maintenance personnel and qualified parishioners.

Penny stated that the parish has received a check from the insurance company covering the flood damage that occurred in February. Don is working with Tim Coffey to schedule the replacement of the basement floor tile.

Jake mentioned that he had talked with Dick Umland about the painting of the rectory doors. Jake said that he could clad the door frames and Dick could paint the doors for a total of $500, which is less than other bids. The members in attendance indicated approval of Jake's plan. Penny will contact the other two members for their input on this. Jake will submit a formal proposal. Jake abstained from voting. Jake will talk with Father regarding doing this on a Saturday.

Penny stated that she is still waiting for quotes on the speaker system for church.

The meeting adjourned at 7:30pm. The next meeting is scheduled for June 21, 2007 at 6:45pm.,Center Main Level.

Respectfully submitted,

Penny Demerath

Parish Business Administrator
