SACRED HEART CHURCH BUILDING & GROUNDS COMMITTEE

                    Minutes of September 20, 2007, Meeting,Parish Center

Members Present: Jake Yeager, Jim Daniel, Roger Blumreich, Kyle Alexander

Parish Custodian: Donald Placzkowski

Business Administrator: Penny Demerath

Meeting convened at 6:50pm.

Committee reviewed the minutes of the August 16, 2007, minutes accepted.

Yeager Construction is going to provide a cost estimate and plan for a dividing wall in the eastern storage room of the Gathering Space basement. This wall will include, a door in the wall, and storage closet with adjustable shelves. This new room will be used by various church groups as a meeting place.

Penny Demerath indicated a parishioner has asked if a handicapped parking space could be designated on Center Street just outside the northeast church entrance. Committee discussed this possibility however this parking area is very busy during the school year with children being dropped off for school. The committee recommends the designated handicapped parking spaces along the west side of the Gathering Space and the carport by the south church entrance, provide adequate and safer handicapped parking and access to the church, for the current time.

The parish and school boiler system has been inspected, recently, and has passed inspection, good for next three years, one more treatment to be completed, yet.

The Parish Rectory deck could be washed and stained, now that repairs, are completed, but committee recommended best to wait till next spring, to do this.

Umland is expected to work on the walls of both the west side basement stairways to church where the paint is cracking this fall.

Two vendors are providing bids for a sound system in the Gathering Space.

Larry Sperberg will fill the two sink holes in the parking lot near the island, again, this fall.

Jim Daniel volunteered to fill the tent stake holes in the parking lot from the Parish Picnic tents, with sand, again this year.

The shrubs along north church wall next to the utility box need to be removed to provide better access to the utility box area. Plan is to cut them off just below ground level.

The maple tree on the west side of the Parish Center needs the lower limbs trimmed.

The front edges of steps around the outside of the church should be painted with bright yellow paint for increased safety, the paint should contain grit for increased safety.

The cooling system in the church will be drained soon as we approach the heating season.

Committee will plan to do the annual walk thru of all buildings and grounds at this coming November 2007 meeting, to develop maintenance needs list, for consideration for next fiscal year budget.
