Approved Meeting Minutes
In Attendance: Father Len, Nancy Schauer, Lois Maczuzak, Penny Demerath, MaryEllen Waldvogel, Denise Stueck, Tom Berg, Linda Meisner, Sue Hennigan, Fred Ponschok, Paul Brulla, and Cindy Swiecichowski.
Opening Prayer: Our Father
Additions to Agenda: None.
Approval of Minutes/Financials: The December minutes were approved as written. The school financial statement shows a considerable variance in the physical education salary; Penny will research this variance and report on this at the next meeting. Tom questioned why the Bleser Family Foundation donation was not showing on the financial statement. Penny will determine how to reflect this in the next statement. Financial statements were then approved.
Correspondence: None.
Old Business: Lois reviewed Policies numbered 3005, 3015, and 3025 with Pastoral Council and the changes made. Lois received information that our current tuition rates are comparable to those schools in our region. No final decision on raising tuition until budgets are complete. She expects a 20-25% increase in insurance rates. MaryEllen reports the costs for performing ACRE testing is $1.40/booklet and an additional $3.35/test to score them. This is usually performed in 5th, 8th, 9th, 11th, or 12th grades. Due to the high costs, we thought we should consider creating our own testing at this time.
New Business: Policies numbered 4005, 4015, 4025, 4035, 4045, and 4055 were reviewed. Suggestion was made to change verbiage of second line of policy number 4025 from proceeding to preceeding. Question was raised regarding accrual of sick time in policy number 4045 whether or not this accrued time is paid out at the time of termination. Lois will check the contracts and personnel handbook to ensure consistency among documents and we will clarify this further next month. Other policies were satisfactory.
Personnel committee met and sent out evaluations to be completed. Lois and MaryEllen must complete a self-evaluation. All evalutions are due February 2. Personnel committee will review and present to Fr. Len.
Catholic Schools Week is scheduled for January 30 to February 5. The theme this year is Faith in Every Student. See school newsletter for schedule of events.
MaryEllen has not yet received information regarding the "Dive In High School Conference" planned for Feb 27, but will share this as soon as it is received.
A request was made for the possibility of basketball practice to be held on Wednesday nights after religious education classes. A letter explaining the facts as to why there is to be no extra curricular activities on Wednesday nights, will be sent to the coaches by Lois. This policy was established, along with the cooperation of area schools, to ensure that Wednesday nights are set aside strictly for religious education and that school activities are not conflicting with the religious classes.
The kindergarten and first grade classes will begin attending a prayer service on Monday mornings at 8:30 in place of attending mass. A letter is being sent home to parents explaining this change. The prayer service will include bible stories, and will be teaching sacramental and catholic traditions. The students will actively participate in the services. Fr. Len was concerned that this age group was not getting enough understanding out of the mass and it was decided that a prayer service might be more appropriate for them at this time.
