SACRED HEART PARISH Board of Total Catholic Education Meeting Minutes Thursday, May 17, 2007 Present: Mark Fuller, Penny Demerath, Lois Maczuzak, Sr. Gemma, Fred Ponschok, Denise Stueck, Becky Dillenberg, Amy Koeller, Ron Henn, Alex Schreiner, Nancy Schauer Excused: Brenda Onesti, Tom Berg, Correen Lewis, Father Len Meeting was called to order by Fuller at 6 pm. Opening Prayer was held. Approval of Agenda: Ponschok motioned with amendments (move new business up), Dillenberg seconded, motion carried. Approval of Minutes: Ponschok motioned with amendments (changing May “crowing” to crowning, change confirmation classes “have begun” to are continuing) Henn seconded, motioned carried. New Business: Discussed changing meeting date and/or time. Decided to try to meet at 5:30 for the June meeting. Becky Dillenberg’s term is up in June. Correen Lewis has resigned as St Michael’s Rep. Clayton Kane and Amy Kane proposed as potential new board members. Amy will be considered. Clayton has already agreed to be a member of the Finance Council. Approval of Financial Statements—RE and School: Schreiner motioned, Dillenberg seconded, motion carried. St Anthony’s Parish has recently sent $20,000 for this year and previous year’s subsidy. Sr. Gemma questioned what to charge a student who missed classes this year and wants to take both 9 th and 10 th grade classes next year. Will have student just take 9 th grade classes and charge current rate. Old Business: Buddy Day was on May 16 th, six attended. Kindergarten class projected at 15-16. Pre K program will not be offered as of now due to less than 15 interested. Enrollment for next year is projected at 129. Fred Ponschok reported on students from SHCS in top 10% of high school graduating class. Penny will take over Booster Club and Home and School finances as of July first. Rep to attending finances council meetings, will send a rep in August, mark will contact Tom Berg to see if he will attend. Other Business: 125 th Anniversary Committee update reported by Stueck. Over 100 are attending. Over 2500 invited (about 1500 alumni and about 1000 invites sent to parish members through the pulse.) over $8,000 in donations. Will ask Father to mentioned at Mass this weekend that the entire parish is invited, not just alumni. Informational Reports: School Administrator: Lois reported on GB Diocese Strategic Plan for Faith Formation and Catholic Schools. Lois, Ponschok, and Stueck attended this meeting held on may 8 th. 6 th through 8 th grade dance will be this Friday. Spring Concert next Thursday. 31 st is the 8 th grade play “A School for Nerds”. Picnic is at Arlington Park June 6 th. Last day is June 7 th. Will follow the Shawano-Gresham school district calendar for 07-08. DRE: 1 st communion on the 29 th went will, practice went well also. May Crowning and Ice Cream social on May 2 nd . May 9 th catechist inservice—Video on Life of Jesus was very interesting. Confirmation students. 38 will be attending VBS. Vicki has closed enrollment. Board strongly advises against turning away students. Reception of HS graduates on June 5 th. Adult enrichment starting June 19 th. Counted toward confirmation hours and religious certification. Youth Minister/Middle School Coordinator: May 4 th 8 th grade retreat—22 students went well—good evals from students and teachers. Would like more leaders next year. Will focus on youth ministry now that faith formation is done for this year. Board Committees: Development: Meeting last week. Spring Bible study complete, 9 couples attended—planning to resume in the fall. Jitter Bug Dance this Friday. Menominee Bike Ride sign up is now. Audrey Onesti and Brenda Onesti would like to have an adult scraping booking/paper scraping/card making from 5-10pm on June . Will play Christian music, attendees to bring their own supplies. Submitted proposal form, approved by board. Purpose of Development committee restated by Schreiner. There was confusion that this committee was the same as the Parish Activities Committee. Personnel: Father and Fuller have not met yet with Lois to discuss eval. Policy: need to devise a Safety Policy, will start this in the fall. Meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm.
