September 2004

September 16, 2004
Approved Meeting Minutes

In Attendance: Chairperson Denise Stueck, Penny Demerath, Lois Maczuzak, Tom Berg, Paul Brulla, Sue Hennigan, Correen Lewis, Becky Dillenburg, Father Len, MaryEllen Waldvogel, Fred Ponschok, Cindy Swiecichowski

Opening Prayer: Parish Meeting Prayer for September.

Introduction of guests: Gary Dodge, Sr. and Lela Schwitzer were our guests.

Additions to Agenda: None.

Approval of Minutes/Financial Statements: Minutes from August were approved as written. There was a mix-up in distribution of the financial statements, so we were not able to review these. Penny also needed to fine-tune the statements after her computer update, so these will be gone through next month.

Inservice: Article II, Section II of the Sacred Heart Board of Total Catholic Education Constitution was reviewed.

Correspondence: None.

Open Forum: Gary Dodge, Sr. and Lela Schwitzer introduced themselves. Gary is representing St. Anthony's Parish. Lela is here on behalf of the Home and School Association.

Old Business: Updated members and committees lists were distributed and reviewed, no changes noted. A vacancy is still unfilled on the Board; members are encouraged to recruit a member of the parish that does not have any direct involvement with the school. Since the Board is responsible for the total religious education of the entire parish, it would be beneficial to have a member to represent those who do not send their children to our school. All members were invited to attend Catechetical Sunday, September 26, brunch to follow 10 a.m. mass. Members are strongly encouraged to attend the Sacred Heart Day of Reflection on Saturday, October 2 from 9:00 to 3:00. The goals of the BTCE were reviewed. Lois encouraged all to promote our catholic faith. Further support of Generations of Faith will greatly help Mary Ellen. Tuition management plan (policy SH 3025) was evaluated; it was decided that the Policy Committee needs to review this policy for clarification.

New Business: Revisions that were made to the Constitution were reviewed. After lengthy discussion, it was decided that the Constitution should remain as it was written.
The religious education staff will promote the Youth Jam 2004, Oct. 8. Annual Make A Difference Day, Oct. 23 was mentioned and it was thought that Catholic Knights were already involved in this event.

Informational Reports:
A. Pastoral Office - No report.
B. Director of Religious Ed - Confirmation scheduled for Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. with Bishop Morneau. October 20, the Net Team will be here to speak to 10th graders. Thanksgiving Feast is scheduled for November 3.
C. School Administrator - Alexander family has pumpkins available for any group wishing to sell them. It was decided that the 7th grade class could use this as a fund raising event for their trip to camp. Jay Edison Wood wishes to use the gym for an open gym night to play basketball for Sacred Heart students. The Board decided that we needed more information before we can approve this request.
D. Pastoral council - No report.
E. Athletic Committee - Tom distributed a report by secretary Deb Schmidt giving us a detailed report of the Booster Club Activities.
F. Home & School Association - Treasurer's report handed out by Lela, vice-president. $100 gift was given to each teacher to use for supplies in their classrooms. Since Home & School rely fully on fundraisers for income, Lela strongly encourages support of the calendar raffle. Most of the monies raised are used for bussing expenses throughout the year. A handbook was sent home to each family, which specifically describe the Home and School Association functions and contacts. November 4 is the next scheduled meeting.
G. BTCE Committees - Development Committee reports that the next bulletin will contain information encouraging parish members to attend "The Gathering" of the Green Bay Diocese, Oct. 8 & 9. Denise is also sending out information on the Catholic Knights We Share Credit Card in the bulletin and with the school news. Teaching staff will be invited to attend the October board meeting. No other committee reports given.

Announcements: Next meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 21, 2004 at 6:00 pm. Tom will chair the October meeting, as Denise is unable to attend.

Evaluation of Board Meeting: Good participation.

Closing Prayer: The Our Father.

Respectfully submitted, Cindy Swiecichowski
