SACRED HEART PARISH Board of Total Catholic EducationBTCE – Development Committee Report of Meeting 03/29/07 The BTCE Development Committee met on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 5PM in the Conference Room at the Parish Center. Alex Schreiner, Brenda Onesti, and Sr. Gemma Therese were in attendance. Alex stated the purpose of said committee at the present time, which is as follows:
programs/activities, according to parish interest, during the interim period between now and such time as the Pastoral Council reaches a decision re: what 2 or 3 major projects they want to pursue in a big way. An overview of the Activity Proposal/Acceptance Process was given, and the Activity Proposal/Acceptance Form introduced (attached). Discussion followed as to the valuable resource in our community through the Shawano-Gresham School District Community Education Program. Many classes are already scheduled at different locations which would help us meet a need, and relieve Sacred Heart of liability issues. Specific examples were given, including classes on dance; fitness; parenting. Alex shared her excitement over the recent Shawano Leader article on dance classes as the instructors are trying to increase teen interest/participation (we’re in the “same boat”). She will work on scheduling a dance class activity. The suggested projects/activities on the survey which attracted the most interest were – Bible Study Groups, Fitness/Social Activities, Family Game Night, and Retreats. Parish Interest Survey Lists were distributed as follows: Brenda Onesti – Bible Study; Alex Schreiner – Social/Fitness. We hope to have Audrey take the list for Social/Crafts, as she has expressed interest in planning projects for Wednesday evenings while middle school and high school students are in Faith Formation classes. We hope Clayton will take the one on Family Game Night. It was noted that our Religious Education Administrative/Facilitative staff is doing a great job of getting the word out on youth retreats/projects; youth ministry project. We decided that sub-committee chairs would check with each other before calling a number of people on their “interest list” so as not to inundate the same people with calls from other sub-committee chairs. We also discussed using the bulletin, Gathering Space info board (and a verbal announcement calling attention to display), phone chain (okay for committee members to share master phone lists with each other as long as the people willingly gave their contact number on the survey), and fliers (sent home with students) to get the word out about upcoming events.
