Items of Discussion:
- Prayer and prayer intentions began the meeting.
- Time was spent in looking at various focus result areas and after much discussion, it was decided that the development of a youth peer ministry (high school students) was a priority. Amy and Todd agreed to further develop this focus area with a specific action plan. Below is what was talked about regarding this goal.
- Identify a core team of Youth Mentors. This would include High School Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Should be done by May of '08 and would be targeted at the '08-'09 school year (this year's freshman, sophomores, & Juniors).
- Conduct a Youth Leadership retreat with the mentoring team during the summer of 2008. June/July target.
- There was discussion on whether there should be immediate activities developed as some members felt that some action was needed. Frank assured the group to be patient and wait until the strategic plan was completed and an action plan made on all the focus result areas. It was shared that when activities begin with adults volunteers, there is a need to be clear what their roles will be and this involved thorough planning. The planning team agreed to this and will continue to complete the planning that is needed. Implementation of the goals can begin before the plan in complete.
- Information was also given on a Frontline program on today’s teenagers and the use of the internet.

Items of Discussion:
- Prayer and prayer intentions began the meeting.
- The main focus of the meeting was on prioritizing “Focus Result Areas” that were discussed in the previous meeting. The following list is the result of the groups discussion and prioritization:
- Adult and youth (high school) leadership (Todd)
- YM needs adults and youth leadership to make gatherings & events possible. This area would also involve leadership training.
- Welcoming community (Cindy)
- Once the leadership is established, working to create a welcoming community will be ever constant so teens feel “at home” and valued.
- Communications (Amy)
- The YM needs to effectively publicize what it is and what is happening through a variety of venues, especially youth friendly ones so people start getting involved.
- Service and Justice (Mark)
- The order of number 4 and 5 are closely linked because some will find meaning and purpose through service and justice, while others through gatherings which purpose is to evangelize. Also, evangelization occurs while serving. Therefore, it’s important to plan goals for both that are in progress during the same time (somewhat).
- Evangelization (announcing the Good News through a variety of activities)
- Worship and Liturgy
- Family connections
- Family connections fellow lower on the list for two main reasons:
- Families will already be involved as leaders and support the YM
- Some youth may participate without family support and they may not want it. Focusing first on the youth, each being an individual.
- Faith Development
- Faith Development is lower on the list because once the youth are excited about the Good News and are experiencing fellowship; then they may begin to want to grow in their understanding of their Catholic faith.
- Intercessory prayer
- Intercessory prayer doesn’t fall last because it’s not important. It’s last because it’s a focus result area that is established and running already.
The names by each subject refer to an assignment that is being asked of the team members. Team members are being asked to write 3-5 goals for their identified focus result areas. Please send these to Amy by Wednesday, January 23rd. Contact Amy if you have questions or difficulty with this. Further information for this task can be found on p. 81 of Growing Teen Disciples and also in the binder under “Prepare” on p. 8-10. Please use the examples to go off of. The goals are very specific.
Amy’s Note:
For the members that were absent, please take some time to look over the Focus Result Areas. We spent a lot of time discussing the order and you may have input on what was decided, so write down any thoughts you have and bring them to the next meeting. I have added rationales above to help you understand why the team chose the order they did. I didn’t write all of what we discussed of course, but I hope I captured the general consensus of the group.
The team tried to brainstorm which Focus Result Areas you would be most interested in to write goals for. If you find interest in this area, please write 3-5 goals for it. Otherwise, let me know if you would rather write goals for a different area.

Entire Team: Use Renewing the Vision, Growing Teen Disciples, & the binder to help you understand what your Focus Result Area is more about, which will aid you in writing your goals. You may miss something important if you just go off of what you think it is.
