Youth Ministry

Sacred Heart Youth Ministry Planning Team Minutes

Monday, August 13, 2007

Attendance:

Cindy Swiecichowski Todd Raether Mark Fuller

Shandel Huffman Alex Isaacson Amy Koehler

Absent: Tonya Myerchin

Items of Discussion:

The meeting opened with prayer, check-in, and prayer requests of the team members.

Amy shared that approval was gained for the use of the entire basement of the parish center for youth meeting rooms.   This is an exciting development for the youth ministry team.

Work continued on the developing a mission statement; a process that is taking time but will be extremely valuable in the long run.   We addressed the following areas, which will help determine various broad themes.   These themes will be capsulated within the mission statement.   The questions we got to so far are:

WHO ARE WE….?

      • As a church (universal and Catholic)
sacramental       community of believers   one body

universal            focused on the Eucharist            traditional

connected          has history                                 has accountability

      • As a parish

traditional          spiritually hungry            has untapped potential

      • What do we believe?

Holy Trinity

God as giver of life

Jesus is real, saves us, gives us life, shows us the way

We’re called to act, not just believe

We’re disciples and should be everyday in our own way

We’re called to walk our talk

Praying is vital and very important

Sacraments

Traditions of the Church

Heaven and Hell

Community

Forgiveness and God gives grace

How do we differ from the dominant culture? Other faiths?

More strict and have structure

More expectations

History

Community of service

Social Justice

Gives unchanging values to live by that people can hold on to

Consistent

Holds on to truths

God is on our side

Gives hope for life, everlasting life

Leadership structure that’s consistent throughout time

WHO DO WE WISH TO REACH?

      • General

Teens who are searching, want more, curious, don’t know

God personally

      • Ages?
