HIGH SCHOOL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Wednesdays 6:30 - 8:30 PM
High School students are offered a credit and choice program of religious education. Courses are offered throughout the school year. Each course is 3 weeks in length. Students must complete 3 courses (2 required and 1 elective) each of the 2 years. Six credits are received for each completed course. A total of 36 credits is required before the student may begin confirmation preparation.
9th Grade Required Courses are:
1) Deciding as a Christian Living in today's culture is a real challenge to a sincere Christian. Our media constantly exposes us to many conflicting values. Deciding the true path to union with God can sometimes be confusing. What criteria can be used to follow the way of Jesus?
2) Jesus - Miracles & Parables The miracle stories were used as vehicles to proclaim how the early Christian Community viewed Jesus. How do modern Biblical scholars view these extraordinary events? Jesus challenged His own culture and many of its' underlying assumptions. How parables were one of the provocative ways in which Jesus did that?
9th Grade Electives are:
1) Liturgy & Prayer Getting in touch with ourselves and our world can help us get in touch with God. Explore different styles of prayer and the meaning hidden behind symbol and ritual.
2) Paul - The Man & the Message Paul was a dynamic figure who led a turbulent life while preaching the Gospel to the early Gentile converts. A brillant scholark, he authored 13 of the letters in the New Testament. Who was he as a person and what was his message?
10th grade Required Courses are:
1) Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures The Old Testaments tells of God choosing a people to be particularly His own. How did they respond to this invitation? Each of us today is called to belong to God's people of the New Covenant. How do we respond?.
2) Sacraments All societies have rituals that mark and interpret important moments in life. For Catholics, these are the sacraments. How does one make the most of these opportunities to grow in closer relationship with God? How can participation in them become more meaningful?

1) World Religions All religions answer deep cries within the human person. How does each of the major religions respond to these cries? How do the key beliefs and rituals vary among different religions? How can we come to a deeper understanding of our brothers and sisters around the world?
2) Dating, Love & Marriage What is the true signs of love? What qualities should one look for in a marriage partner? How does a strong relationship with God increase the stability of a marriage?
